Diwali 2008

Diwali and Halloween fell back to back this year. This year's Diwali was really nice. Raja definitely understands what Diwali is and knows we celebrate it. I think that's a big accomplishment for us as parents.

This year was especially nice because I helped host a Diwali party and Raja's school. I made pades to take to school as an Indian treat. My mom gave me the microwave recipe of Eagle brand condensed milk, dry milk, and butter. All you do is take 1 can of the eagle brand milk, mixed with the dry milk (measured the same size as the Eagle brand can) and 1/2 stick of butter. Mix the 3 and keep microwaving for 1:30 min at a time and then stir. After about 8 min, it turns into fudge-like consistency. Then wait until it cools and shape. Since you can't take nuts into the school, I decorated them with sprinkles.

The party consisted of storytime with a Diwali book, snack , bhangra music, and then outside to make rangolis with sidewalk chalk. Then all the kids came back in and colored the Diwali cards I passed out. At the end of the day, each child took home a Diwali goody bag complete with glow sticks, parle g cookies, and m&m's. What a blast!

Enjoy the pictures.
