Last year during Thanksgiving, my brother, sister, and I decided to try and start to clean out our own rooms at my parents' house in Memphis. It was quite an undertaking, but we thought we might as well get our stuff out of their house.
Well, we barely made a dent at de-cluttering, but a couple of good things did come out of it. I brought home all my high school yearbooks, I got to revisit a lot of childhood memories and best of all, I found my parents original wedding video on a reel.
I immediately wanted to get it converted to a cd, but of course, we continued to procrastinate and it never got done before I headed home. Last week, my lil sis went to Memphis and finally got it converted in an Indian store in Houston that applied background Indian music to it.
It was so amazing to watch... Amritsar in 1969 - wow. My parents and grandparents look so young and to see the traditional wedding customs was amazing. I'm so glad we have a piece of family history now. It's funny how when I got married, I didn't really care about spending the extra money on a videographer, but now I really wish I had a professional video for Raja and Bulldozer to watch when they grow up vs. our two vcr tapes that were never edited.
Watching this also makes me want to start to take more home videos. Right now, we don't even own a video camera and only take 3 - 5 min video clips on digital camera. I guess that is now going to be my next purchase is a cool little digital video camera. Any recommendations out there?
A girlfriend and I were talking about it's important to try to make some family traditions, now that we have our own families. I know I've been bad at that... Right now, all we have is "fun Fridays" which basically means the kids can watch TV with dinner. Not a very good one, if you ask me. I know I want to take family vacations, but some fun family traditions would be great, too.
